ADEE Regional Council

Since 2022 ADEE operates a regional structure where countries are automatically categorised into one of 7 regions. These regions are organised based on having shared concepts and historical evolution of dental education resulting in comparable education systems as well as similar social and cultural context.

Region 4 Southern Europe
Region 5 Eastern Europe

Region 7d: Rest of Asia, including India and China

Where available ADEE will link with existing regional structures to ensure regional voices are included in ADEE strategy and direction. Thus for Region 1 UK & Ireland ADEE collaborated with BARDES (British Alliance of Research in Dental Education & Scholarship).

The ADEE regional council brings together representation from each of the regions to provide support to the ADEE board by offering a means for regional diversity to be included in activities and discussions. Current regional council membership is as follows:

Professor Barry Quinn was an UG lead for over 240 students at KCL, now at the University of Liverpool. Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry Prosthodontics, Endodontics and Periodontics.Barry has a PhD in clinical simulation education. His research has involved working with inter-professional teams in developing haptic simulation for dental, medical, nursing and veterinary professionals. Always interested in recruiting PhD candidates who wish to pursue educational research.

Professor Michael Botelho has published widely in dental clinical and basic science research with over 100 publications. In education, he has lectured, consulted and examined across South East Asia, Japan, Europe and the USA and in Dental education he has over 20 papers, 8 book chapters and 19 grants. He is a recipient of the Hong Kong UGC Teaching Award and HKU teaching awards. He is currently President elect of the Educational Research Group of the IADR and Associate Editor for the EJDE.
