Session type:
Type 2: Organised, planned and delivered by a subgroup, special interest group, community of practice of ADEE
Session synopsis:

Research skills and academic literacy are fundamental competencies for modern dental professionals, yet they remain among the more challenging aspects to teach and assess within the dental curriculum. Embedding these skills effectively is essential to support the development of critically reflective practitioners who can engage with and apply the best available evidence in patient care, as outlined in the Graduating European Dentist (GED) curriculum.

In response to this need, an implementation group was formed to explore innovative and practical approaches to teaching and assessing research competencies in authentic clinical and academic settings. This session will present the group’s key findings, share insights from student feedback, and highlight examples of effective practices across institutions.

Participants will be invited to contribute to an interactive discussion aimed at identifying opportunities for collaboration, sharing resources, and shaping future developments in this essential area of dental education. This session supports the collective aim of preparing graduates who are future leaders in both scientific research and clinical innovation.
