ADEE and ADEA facilitate 5th meeting of Regional Dental Education Associations to enable a collaborative response to the WHO Global Oral Health Action Plan

ADEE and ADEA were delighted to be able to bring together representatives for the Dental Education Associations and corporate partners at a side event to IADR annual session in Barcelona to continue our collaborative efforts to enable a meaningful response to the WHO Global Oral Health Strategy and Action Plan. This is the fifth in a series of meetings and workshop that aims create a collaborative response to the World Health Organisations Global Oral Health Strategy and Action Plan from an Oral Health Professionals Education Perspective.

It was wonderful to see leaders from the regional associations from SEAADE (South East Asia), KIDDE (Korea), ADELAC (Latin America and Carabeen), ADEAP (Asia Pacific), The Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe, EADPH (European Public Dental Health),IFDEA (International),  ABENO (Brazil), and also representatives from schools in the United States, Europe, Mexico, Dominican Republic, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Europe joining ADEE and ADEA in this work. This purpose of this session was to report on progress to date and discuss two remaining key areas where educational associations can assist in the enabling of the aspirations of the WHO Oral Health Strategy.

The associations were very clear in the role they can play in assisting members address the WHO strategy nationally and have prioritised the creation of supporting resources on Advocacy, Curriculum Development, Research and the Evidence Base and Inter-professionalism. These resources will be shared in separate posts in the coming weeks. Through the regional associations language and contextually appropriate versions of these resources will be disseminated. The group plan to next meet at the ADEE annual meeting in August in Dublin and representatives of all regional educational associations are invited to participate by contacting the ADEE office for information.

ADEE and ADEA would like to thank for their enabling of this important collaborative project.
