On Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd August 2025 at the plenary sessions of ADEE 2025, ADEE recognised 7 colleagues as part of its ADEE Excellence in Dental Education Awards.
Early career awards were issued to two colleagues who demonstrated their early commitment to the education of oral health professionals, engagement with the higher education community and alignment with ADEE values.
Sviatlana Anishchuck - Dublin Dental University Hospital, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland

Sviatlana is currently program co-ordinator at Trinity College Dublin’s Dental Hygiene program, an active researcher and tutor, and served as President of the Irish Dental Hygiene Association. Within ADEE she has receiving the 2020 ADEE GSK Dentistry in Society Award Scholarship and has delivered various presentations, including on topics on student wellbeing and resilience. She has several publications as lead author, and has also published in the European Journal of Dental Education. |
Daniela Pino Valenzuela - Universidad de Concepción, Chile

After receiving her PhD Daniela fully focused on education, and among other functions, she is currently Assistant Professor and President of the Committee on Dental Education at Concepción, Chile and is also co-ordinator of haptic simulation. Daniela is actively involved in curriculum redesign, the integration of simulation-based learning, faculty development initiatives, and both clinical and theoretical instruction. Within ADEE, she has received two best poster rewards within Technology Enhanced Learning, in 2022 and 2024 and is an active peer reviewer for the European Journal of Dental Education. |

Jane Wardman - University of Leeds, UK

Jane is a Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Trainers, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Chair of the UK Dental Schools Council Education Committee. This clearly demonstrates here contribution to dental education nationally. Locally within the University of Leeds, Jane is currently Clinical Associate Professor in Dental Education, Director of Student Education and formally Associate Director of Student Education. She has a proven commitment to ADEE with no less than 7 ADEE poster presentations in the past, and several journal publications on education. She has with worked with dedication as Associate Editor for the EJDE for many years and on ADEE’s 40th Anniversary now ten years ago, she received the ADEE PhD Scholarship Award. Janes’ commitment to her profession nationally and internationally as well as her passion for supporting ADEE is second to none. |
Dahlia Meisha - King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Dahlia has demonstrated a longstanding and multifaceted commitment to educational innovation, with impactful contributions across curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and evidence-based instruction. She is widely recognized for leading the development and implementation of the first formal Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD) curriculum at King Abdulaziz University. As Vice Director (2020-2023), she played a significant role within a highly proactive team in designing and launching the King Abdulaziz University Scholars Program in 2021, a flagship initiative that fosters research capacity among early career faculty. In her current capacity as Academic Director of the Fellowship in Teaching and Learning, she continues to provide strategic improvements under the direction of the current centers’ management, overseeing program development and alignment with best practices in higher education. Within ADEE we have seen continuous presentations ad engagement at our meeting, and are happy to see her continue on that, and encourage her to share your knowledge within the EJDE. |
Julia Davies - Malmö University, Sweden

Julia specialized in teaching oral biological aspects of dental care to dental and oral hygiene students. And, importantly, she has played a major role in developing within Malmö Dental School what it is renowned for, namely the educational philosophy of Problem Based Learning. Since 2016, she have served on the executive board of ADEE, first as member and now as treasurer. During this time, she was involved in two major collaborative projects: revision and development of the Graduating European Dentist (GED) curriculum framework documents, and the EU Erasmus+ funded O-Health-Edu (OHE) project. Within in the latter she led the development of “Articulate – a glossary of terms for higher education of oral health professionals in Europe” – published as a paper in EJDE, and an ADEE web-based interactive map of educational establishments across Europe offering oral health professional education. Her commitment to ADEE and its vision is unquestionable. |
Robert McKerlie - Glasgow Dental Hospital and School, UK

Robert is now Senior Lecturer and Deputy Director of Dental Education and the school’s Lead for Digital and Online Learning. Having qualified as a Dental Technician in 1987 he gained an Advanced Certificate in Prosthodontics in 1989, became a Dental Instructor in 1995, and through University Teacher, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer (in 2020) this has given him thirty years’ experience of delivering a wide range of teaching and learning modalities. He is Lead for Digital and Online Learning, for which he not only have developed numerous valuable assets throughout the years, but this work was also recognized and awarded with the University of Glasgow Teaching Excellence Award twice, in 2012 and 2016, for Technology Enhanced Teaching and Learning. He has presented on his educational work at various ADEE meetings, such as in Oslo, Berlin, and Liverpool. Also, he has published on educational developments in major international journals, such as the EDJE. |
Rui Albuquerque - Kings College London, UK

Rui was Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham (2013-2018) and since 2018, he has been a Consultant in Oral Medicine at Guy’s Hospital, and Reader in Oral Medicine at King’s College London (KCL). Among his many national and international responsibilities is chairing the Education Committee of the European Association of Oral Medicine. He has co-ordinated national and international educational research studies with several European Universities, promoting the need for enhanced training approaches, which has led to a number of international publications. Rui is very active in smoking cessation programs, at an international level collaborating with various universities, which has also led to an FDI supported text book called “Prevention of Oral Cancer”, for which you were in the lead. Currently, he is also active in the field of Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders, about which he has published internationally, and in the EDJE. |
